For Nashville
Knowing that the education of our children is the most important thing that a community does, Charlie is a strong supporter of Nashville’s public schools. Charlie sent both of his two daughters through the Nashville public school system and currently Charlie’s daughter, Jenny, is a middle school teacher with Metro Nashville Public Schools.
· At 3 of the 4 public schools Charlies children attended, Charlie and Judy served as President and Treasurers of the PTA.
When elected Councilman-At-Large, Charlie’s educational goals are to:
· Maximize each and every student’s opportunity to learn by ensuring that our government provides the proper funding of exciting educational and stimulating learning opportunities
- Provide a safe, secure, and nurturing environment for students
- Encourage parental and community involvement within Nashville’s school system
From Bordeaux to Bellevue, Nashville has 608 neighborhood associations throughout Davidson County. Knowing that strong communities lead to a stronger city, Charlie is committed to improving the quality of life for all of the citizens of Nashville.
When elected Councilman-At-Large, Charlie’s quality of life goals are to:
- Encourage and provide the necessary resources to increase the number of Nashville ’s neighborhood associations and neighborhood watch programs
- Increase the number of recycling centers throughout Nashville and expand the curb-side residential recycling program county wide
- Enhance Nashville’s storm water management plan by addressing legitimate drainage concerns and by supporting the necessary resources to strengthen the storm water plan
- Increase the number of Nashville’s greenways, so that the citizens of Nashville can enjoy the beauty of this great city while having more opportunities to be healthy through the use of walkways and nature trails
Nashville is a quickly growing city with over 600,000 citizens. Year after year, Nashville has shown a continual increase in the number of construction permits, a tremendous growth in downtown residential living, and the addition of several corporate headquarters.
In June of 2006, Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine ranked Nashville as the #1 Smartest Place to Live because of Nashville's blend of Southern hospitality, affordable homes, a phenomenal entertainment scene, and the encouragement of business growth.
Councilman Charlie Tygard supports responsible business and residential growth and when elected Councilman-At-Large, Charlie's vision for Nashville includes:
- Encourage more national corporations to relocate their corporate offices to the Nashville area and thereby increase employment opportunities for the citizens of Nashville
- Encourage responsible commercial and residential growth in the downtown Nashville area
- Maximize Nashville's tourism opportunity by encouraging proper funding of innovative ways to increase the number of annual visitors to Music City U.S.A.
- Promote a partnership with corporations to increase the number of homes built through the Habitat for Humanity program for deserving families
